God - the Inviting One

It’s nice to receive a personal invitation to a friend’s party. But have you ever received one from a celebrity? They get framed and put on the wall! Do you realize that God has given you many such invitations?

“Come to me all you are weary and burdened and I will give you rest” (Matt 11:28).”Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live” (Isa 55:3). Quite an invitation! What happens if we disregard it? If we do not RSVP God? Listen to the answer as told by Jesus:

“A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’ Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’ Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’ The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’ ‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’ Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full. I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’ “(Luke 14:16-24).

When God invites you, go! Whatever He invites you to is good. It will be much better than anything that you are having to leave. He met fisherman and said, “Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matt 4:19).Quite a gamble wasn’t it? Leave one’s family business, security, relatives! But did they choose unwisely? Of course not. Peter asked, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?” (Matt 19:27). Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in the present age…and in the age to come, eternal life” (Mk 10:29-30). When he saw Jesus walking on water, Peter said, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water. ‘Come,’ he said” (Matt 14:28-29).You will never know what you have missed by not answering the invitation of Christ!

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost” (Isa 55:1). But, when you come to God, come sincerely as He is playing no games. “The Lord says, these people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me” (Isa 29:13a). He wants your heart. “Come near to God and he will come near to you” (James 4:8a). Can you trust Him? Will He have you? Jesus promised, “whoever comes to me I will never drive away!” (John 6:37b). Believe and come.
